I’ve been following “Interviewing the Ordinaries” for quite some time now and have been interviewed myself in the past. This time though, I wanted to reverse the roles: have the original blogger answer a few questions from one of the interviewees. The “three” theme you might notice in this post was intentional. I remember my old high school English teacher saying that people respond well to patterns of three things, so-called tricolons in literature. As an epidemiologist-in-training, I am a believer of patterns and their strange ability to teach human-beings, yet we still make the same mistakes all the time. It was fun interviewing, but I learned that it isn’t so easy. I hope you enjoy these fascinating answers. The interviewee is definitely one of a kind.” -JJ (guest blogger)

List top 3 things you love the most. They could be anything. And why?
- God- He is just almighty.
- Dogs- because they are so loyal and do not discriminate. And it’s amazing how you could come home from work, and your dog would always wag his/her tail welcoming you. It’s just beautiful.
- Music- Not only do I like to play an instrument or create music, but music itself is another creative way to express yourself. Music is also a language. To be able to speak that language, you don’t have to be that intelligent or have much experience to understand the basics of that language.
List top 3 things you despise. And again, why?
- First and foremost, pride- It could be the foundation of all other sins out there. Pride can lead to wrongful ideas, actions, and habits that just lead to greed, lust, envy, etc. For example, in Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, there is a character named Selim who represents one of the deadly sins, Pride. He is one of the strongest and hardest antagonists to defeat. I feel like that is because Pride is a pocket of all other sins. Because of that, pride is dangerously powerful, which makes it hard to defeat as humans. Also, [Selim] was ugly. Especially his voice.
- Insects- As much as I understand they are needed, I sometimes wonder why God made them so ugly. They reproduce like crazy. One flea can lay up to 1,000 to 10,000 eggs per day. It’s just disgusting.
- Discrimination- It’s within our human nature. It’s not just racial discrimination I’m talking about here.
Can you think of 3 films that you constantly go back to?
- The Hours– It’s a film about three women who live in different time periods. Virginia Woolf writes Mrs. Dalloway in the film. Woolf’s character Mrs. Dalloway is also represented as Clarissa who is one of the main female characters in the film. Just like Woolf’s character, Clarissa plans a party, but she struggles with emotional instability and tragedy of her friend/lover. Similarly, Laura Brown, who is also one of the three main characters, tries to host a birthday party for her husband. Throughout the whole movie, the three women struggle between their own desire for happiness and expectations of society. This movie just shows how everyone may seem confident or tries to find happiness through social norms, but we are so restrained due to judgments and regrets.
- The Others– Ever since I was a kid, I was just so fascinated and entertained by the film. Now that I watch it as a “grown” woman, the film just has so many great things like good acting, plot twist, some history, fashion, suspense, and filmography. Nowadays horror movies are all about having that gore and suspense without a good storyline. But this movie is not gory nor does it have weird, creepy creatures. The director knows how to put the audience on the edge of their seats with classic horror/thriller movie techniques.
- Mother– It’s a Korean film directed by Bong Joon-ho. This movie is also a psychological thriller. It shows how corrupt and disgusting we human-beings are. Regardless of how much we say that we are “civilized” or the best species out there, we are really not. Although we may have the thinking capability and power, we still act like barbaric animals at the end.
