This interviewee studies computer science. He is from Russia.
Are you passionate about computer science? If so, why?
I like how when you are solving a problem, you can approach it in different ways. Since there are multiple ways of solving a problem, every time you approach it, it’s fresh. It’s a very creative process.
Would you say that computer science is or like art?
It is because art is something that you create or invent and computer science is like that. There are different codes and problems to solve with different solutions. When you come up with a solution, it may not be the best, but you still work on it.
If you could invent anything in the world, what would it be and why?
This is a hard question. Computer science doesn’t invent a thing but an investor for an idea or a thought of process. It’s like writing books. The movie makers make scenes but writers have ideas in their heads that you cannot really see. In computer codes, you cannot see it but only inside your head.
Do you think math is a language?
In a way […] I am not ready to answer this question because right now I have a class called “Theory of Computing,” and the way that the computers are programed, they are programed with mathematical reasoning. So, in a way machines can think but they are not exactly like humans. If machines can think like a human, then math is somewhat like a language. Because math can communicate to the machine–how to respond and interact with computers.
What makes you happy?
I think that whenever you gain happiness it can be from anything. It can be from a book you’ve read, funny things that happened. But the important thing in life is not what it makes you happy, but sharing that happiness with others is real happiness.
